Best Coast drummer Ali Koehler has confirmed that she has parted company with the band.
Best Coast have never been a ‘group’ as such. Essentially an outlet for Bethany Cosentino, the band expanded to play live with Ali Koehler stepping in on drums.
Developing a tight live sound, Best Coast began focusing on their second album earlier this year. Now, in a series of Tweets, Ali Koehler has revealed that she has parted company with the indie outfit.
Speaking to fans online, Ali Koehler revealed that she was no longer a member of Best Coast. Asked why, the drummer replied: “Not my choice, sorry if you’re disappointed”, “I’m sorry, I’m equally disappointed”, and “your guess is as good as mine”.
Ali Koehler joined the band last summer. Source of indie bitching Hipster Runoff reports that Koehler was replaced by a male drummer at a recent Stateside show.
Looking ahead, Best Coast are beginning work on their second album. Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno are at work in the Capitol Records studio in Los Angeles, with Jon Brion overseeing production.
As for Ali Koehler, the drummer is now able to focus on her solo output. Writing on Twitter, the songwriter said: “Whether it’s in a basement or at an amphitheater, you will always see me playing music in some capacity. Hopefully sooner than later.”
