Benny Sings returns with new single ‘Pyjamas’.
The Amsterdam polymath returns on March 24th with new album ‘Young Hearts’, which features guest production work from Kenny Beats. The two align closely, taking Benny’s work in multiple different directions.
New single ‘Pyjamas’ is a case in point. There’s a real bossa flavour to the production – what is it with hip-hop figures and Brazilian crate-digging? – that injects a sense of light to Benny Sings’ songwriting.
An effervescent return, it finds Benny Sings working alongside the irrepressible Remi Wolf. A neat back and forth, it tackles that little-discussed topic in pop songwriting – a male with a low libido…
“I’m always looking for the anti-hero,” Benny says. “One of the subjects that hasn’t been sung about too much is the male with too low libido, instead of too high. We all know the ‘I can’t get no satisfaction’ take on things. Just seems funny to me to turn that around, a duet where the girl wants to roll around in the hay, and the boy is nervously trying to avoid the question on hand. ‘We could take a walk on the beach… Read a book maybe?’”
