Benjamin Booker Announces New Album ‘Lower’

His first in seven years...

American artist Benjamin Booker will release new album ‘Lower’ on January 24th.

The songwriter’s self-titled debut landed a decade ago, melting together soul, garage rock a la The Gun Club, and more into one potent brew. An electrifying live proposition, a follow-up landed in 2017 and then… well, the trail went a little cold.

Aside from a feature with avant rap duo Armand Hammer, little has been heard from Benjamin Booker in seven years – until now, that is.

Emerging from the shadows, new album ‘Lower’ is slated to land on January 24th via Fire Next Time Records, and a new single is out now.

Co-produced with Kenny Segal, the material on the record finds Benjamin Booker searching for a specific sound in his imagination. He reflects in a press note: “I wanted to get to this sound, but I didn’t know how. At some point I decided I’m going to find it or die trying.”

“Kenny was the missing piece I needed – he fills in all of my gaps. I don’t know what I’ll do next, but if I can imagine it, I can do it now.”

New track ‘LWA In The Trailer Park’ is out now, and it nods towards something raw, with emotional intensity on the record as a whole.

Benjamin Booker comments: “I felt particularly connected to Paul Schrader’s work making this album.  Like several of his movies, I wanted to look at a troubled character on the edge, reaching for transcendence. Now that I’m working on a series of connected videos, Schrader has had an influence in that arena as well, along with Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Samourai and Charles Burnett’s Killer of Sheep.”

Tune in now.
