Ben Kweller On New Album

New LP To Be Dark And Heavy

Indie songster Ben Kweller has revealed in a new interview that his upcoming album ‘Changing Horses’ will much darker than previous efforts.

Kweller earned massive acclaim for his self-titled 2006 set, which combined indie rock with a classic Americana feel. With hints of Dylan and a dash of The Band, ‘Ben Kweller’ was one of the more impressive songwriting debuts of recent times.

New album ‘Changing Horses’ will apparently be a much more serious affair than the debut. Kweller told US magazine Spin that “it has some heavy stuff”. Album track ‘Ballad Of Wendy Baker’ is about a friend who died in a car crash.

The new record is also deeply influenced by classic songwriting, and in particular benefits from the help of family friend Nils Lofgren. Lofgren played guitar with both Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, and has a major impact on the forthcoming album.

Ben Kweller releases ‘Changing Horses’ on February 3rd. Provisional tracklisting is as follows:

1. “Gypsy Rose”
2. “Old Hat”
3. “Fight”
4. “Hurtin’ You”
5. “Ballad of Wendy Baker”
6. “Sawdust Man”
7. “Wantin’ Her Again”
8. “Things I Like to Do”
9. “On Her Down”
10. “Homeward Bound”
