Beck / Stephen Malkmus Team Up

Slacker overload!

Alt rock icons Beck and Stephen Malkmus are reportedly planning to team up on a new studio project.

Between them, Beck and Stephen Malkmus managed to go a long way to defining American rock music during the 90s. With a series of seminal release, the pair flew above mere trends to become genuinely influential.

With Pavement reforming for a world tour, the Californian band could finally get the public recognition they deserve. Meanwhile, things are only getting better for fans with singer Stephen Malkmus set to work with Beck.

The pair are reportedly set to work on material together, with Mojo magazine claiming that the two met up earlier this year.

What were they discussing? To be frank, we don’t know. Beck has acted as a producer in the past, working on material with French singer Charlotte Gainsbourg recently for her acclaimed ‘IRM’ album.

However it could also be a collaboration. Fans point out that Stephen Malkmus has a growing fondness for producing himself, and wouldn’t really need another pair of hands in the studio when it comes to laying down material.

Equally, it could be a very special instalment of Beck’s ‘Record Club’ where the singer recruits some famous friends to tackle some of rock’s most sacred texts.

One thing is for sure, however – this could take some time. Booking a series of shows for Pavement, Stephen Malkmus has left himself little time to play with and can only re-commence his solo career next year.
