Dhani Harrison, son of the late Beatles guitarist George, has proposed a standalone download site offering the band’s music for sale.
The Beatles remain one of the most popular groups in the history of recorded music. Their albums still sell strongly each year, but the group have yet to agree to an online delivery system.
The band are by some way the largest group who have yet to sign an online distribution deal. George Harrison’s son Dhani has proposed that the group sell their music through an exclusive site.
“We’re losing money every day,” Harrison told Blender.
“So what do you do? You have to have your own delivery system, or you have to do a good deal with Steve Jobs. But he says that a download is worth 99 cents, and we disagree.”
Harrison also revealed that it was he who initiated the deal that resulted in the Beatles Rock Band game. “I took the project to Apple (Records) and sort of convinced everybody to have a presentation,” he told Billboard.
“My job description is…being enthusiastic. We’ve been working on it for the past two years. This is the first one that is going to be totally, historically accurate. It’s been a real headache, but it’s been the most enjoyable work I’ve done in my life.”
