Beatles O2 Arena Chorus Planned

Massive concert planned

Legendary British group The Beatles are set to have their music performed by 4,700 school children in a special new concert.

More than fifty years on from the fateful first meeting of Lennon and McCartney, the music of The Beatles has a rare hold. Dominating the public’s attention like little else before or since, the group helped pioneer recording techniques that are now commonplace.

The band split in 1970, but their music has never really gone away. Over the past three years The Beatles’ recordings have been painstakingly re-mastered by sound technicians in Abbey Road studios – where the band first recorded.

Now set to be re-released, The Beatles could well conquer an entirely new generation. The band’s recordings are famously not available to buy as digital downloads, but this could change later in the year.

A special edition of the ‘Rock Band’ game will be devoted to the Fab Four, with fans now able to play along with their heroes. The launch of the game was a lavish affair, that even managed to unite remaining Beatles Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr onstage.

An upcoming concert will feature the band’s music performed by almost five thousand school children. Taking place in London’s O2 Arena the concert will use only school pupils aged between ten and fourteen.

The massive singalong will include thirty four Beatles tracks, and is due to take place on July 1st. Cheryl Ferguson, who plays Heather Trott in EastEnders, and Nighty Night comedian Kevin Eldon will also appear, reports the BBC.

The latest addition to the massed ranks of the choir is comedian Bill Bailey. A noted music fan (check out his version of the ‘Hokey Cokey’!) Bailey will take to the stage alongside 4,700 school children.

Titled ‘The Long And Winding Road’ the event will raise money for the charities Arts by Children and Global Angels.

Of course, this is far from the only tribute to The Beatles to happen this year. John Lennon’s solo hit ‘Imagine’ was recently reworked into church bells by Liverpool’s Anglican cathderal – neatly ignoring the song’s anti-religious stance.

‘The Long And Winding Road’ takes place in London’s O2 Arena on July 1st.
