bdrmm Return With Heavenly ‘Standard Tuning’

It's a song about loss...

Leeds-Hull shoegaze group bdrmm have shared new single ‘Standard Tuning’.

The band’s second album ‘I Don’t Know’ is out now, with bdrmm sharing Autumn single ‘Mud’ was 2023 eased to a close.

Set to hit the road this Spring, bdrmm have confirmed a mixture of headline shows, and DIIV support spots. Alongside this, the Leeds-Hull band have also shared something new, representative of the way their music is evolving.

Out now, ‘Standard Tuning’ is all opaque melodies, undulating loops, and skittering electronics, blending their shoegaze aspects to something unexpected.

Lyrically, ‘Standard Tuning’ deals with loss; the absence of a core centre allowing the music to float unhindered through different spheres.

Frontman Ryan Smith

‘Standard Tuning’ is an important track in the ever-changing development of our creative process, as it was a collaboration between myself and Jordan. I created the loop using techniques such as stretching samples and chopping them, and Jordan added synthetics and drum processing and structured it into the track you hear now. Lyrically, the words followed the loss of an old childhood friend.

Despite the fact of not speaking to somebody for years, you still feel an atmosphere of upset and loss. The passing affected the Hull community in such a way that it was impossible not to be affected by it. The song is about loss and a tribute to old friends.

A 10 inch vinyl pressing of ‘Standard Tuning’ is out on April 19th, featuring the Nathan Fake remix of ‘Alps’; the B-side will contain an etching.

Tune in now.
