bdrmm Confirm New Album ‘Microtonic’

A step into electronics...

Leeds based group bdrmm have confirmed plans for new album ‘Microtonic’.

The band initially operated in a shoegaze vein, before broadening their scope. Working with Rock Action Records – founded by Mogwai – bdrmm seem to revel in creative freedom, with their new album representing a potent about-turn.

Completing tour support alongside Daniel Avery, a group-rave at Field Day saw bdrmm seize hold of rave culture, allowing it to seep into their music.

Constructed alongside long-term band collaborator Alex Greaves, new album ‘Microtonic’ is the result. The record steers bdrmm into an electronic vein, alongside guest appearances from Sydney Minsky Sargeant of Working Men’s Club and Olivesque of Nightbus.

The band’s Ryan Smith comments…

I felt very constrained writing a certain type of music to fit the genre [we were known for] but something lifted and I felt more free to create what I want. And what I seem to be doing at the moment is a lot of electronic music – taking influence from different spans of electronica, from dance music to ambient and more experimental sources.

New single ‘John On The Ceiling’ illustrates where their head is at – dense electronics, nonetheless remains tethered to their previous work in character, at times suggesting the flowing digital layers of F Buttons, say.

Ryan Smith had the following to say about the new single

The themes surrounding ‘John On The Ceiling’ are that of confusion and doubt. When something ends and another starts, you lure yourself into a false sense of security that the mistakes made won’t happen again. This happens over and over until you are paralysed in limbo. Can people ever truly change?

Tune in now.

Catch bdrmm on tour in March.
