BBC4 To Celebrate Bob Dylan

Ahead of A Complete Unknown...

BBC4 is set to celebrate Bob Dylan with two special films next month.

The songwriter is the subject of a new biopic, with A Complete Unknown charting his emergence in New York, his iconic folk-driven albums, and his famed ‘goes electric’ moment at Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

A film that traces the emergence of an icon, even Bob Dylan seems to be impressed, writing on Twitter / x:

Timothee Chalamet is starring in the lead role. Timmy’s a brilliant actor so I’m sure he’s going to be completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me. The film’s taken from Elijah Wald’s Dylan Goes Electric – a book that came out in 2015. It’s a fantastic retelling of events from the early ‘60s that led up to the fiasco at Newport. After you’ve seen the movie read the book.

Out in cinemas from January 17th, BBC4 will toast the release with a special night of programming dedicated to Bob Dylan.

Martin Scorsese’s incredible documentary Bob Dylan: No Direction Home will hit the BBC channel, followed by Bob Dylan: Shadow Kingdom.
