BBC 6Music Campaign Update

AIM arrange new protest

The campaign to save BBC 6Music has stepped up a gear with fans urged to attend a new protest.

Founded in 2002, BBC 6Music is arguably the most successful of the broadcaster’s digital stations. Eschewing playlists for something a little more left field, its array of knowledgeable presenters have become a hit with music fans.

Much loved, the station’s future was recently put controversially under threat by the BBC. Strapped for cash, the organisation is holding a review of the future of 6Music and the Asian Network.

Now the Association of Independent Music (AIM) has entered the fray, organising a protest outside the BBC’s headquarters in London.

The AIM organisation has released a new statement, urging fans to back the campaign to save BBC 6Music. The BBC’s review of the station will continue until the end of May, with fans able to make their voices heard.

The Chair of the BBC Trust, Sir Michael Lyons, has admitted that they will have to rethink their plans if faced with “massive public concern”.

In addition to this, AIM have organised a protest meeting outside the BBC Headquarters in London on Saturday (March 27th). The event is intended to be a celebration of 6Music’s creativity, with well known speakers and buskers taking part.

Kicking off at midday, the event is set to be a fun filled day out for music fans with a serious cause at heart.
