Australian artist BATTS returns with new single ‘Call It What It Is’.
The songwriter has signed to Mistletone / I Feel Fine Records, with second album ‘The Nightline’ scheduled to land on October 14th. Recently airing new material at a slew of Australian shows alongside Cate Le Bon, BATTS has now released something fresh.
Online now, ‘Call It What It Is’ is an intriguing piece of music, swirling electronics wrapped around her incisive, evocative songwriting. The lyrics discuss the need for mutual empathy, and the requirement to step up when others are grieving.
Remarkably, the infectious piano hook was penned one-handed – she broke her other hand in an accident.
She comments…
“I find moving and dancing to be so healing. I really wanted to create a song that hits you right in the chest and makes you want to move every part of your body. This song feels like a fierce sort of movement, like you really need to move to the sounds. They aren’t pretty, they are forceful in a releasing sort of way and perfectly placed together to help you move. I hope this song helps people get something out, release something from their body they have been keeping inside.'”
