Acclaimed British group Bat For Lashes could be set to begin work on a musical fantasy film based on their debut album ‘Fur And Gold’.
Led by Natasha Khan, Bat For Lashes make truly other worldly pop music. The group’s debut album ‘Fur And Gold’ was utterly unique, combining Khan’s spell binding voice with near orchestral arrangements.
Fragile to the point of breaking, the album became a cult favourite reaching an audience far larger than the group could ever have expected. Eventually nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, it stands as one of British music’s most self-contained releases in the past decade.
Now it seems that ‘Fur And Gold’ could be turned into a new fantasy film. In a new interview with Gigwise singer Khan revealed that preparations are currently underway in Los Angeles. “They’re writing the script and I think they’ve got the go ahead of using the music but now they just have to get the funding,” she said.
“I think there’s kind of a plan to make this beautiful musical which takes the narrative from the chronological order of songs from ‘Fur and Gold’.”
Khan added that the plot is said to resemble cult flick ‘The Neverending Story’, but plans are far from certain.
“If it happens it’ll be amazing but we don’t know yet if we can afford it,” she added. “It’s always money I suppose, but who knows, it’s in the pipeline.”
Bat For Lashes have been busy of late, recording their new album ‘Two Suns’. A step forward from the debut, it is nonetheless clearly a Bat For Lashes album containing blissfully otherworldly songwriting.
Bat For Lashes are set to release ‘Two Suns’ on April 6th.
