Edinburgh-born electronic artist Barry Can’t Swim has shared a reworked version of standout single ‘Always Get Through To You’. The single is part of the EA Sports FC 2024 official soundtrack and is lifted from Barry’s acclaimed debut album ‘When Will We Land?’, out via Ninja Tune.
Barry reins in the tempo and enlists British-Bengali artist Surya Sen for the rework, imbuing the effulgent feel of the original with Sen’s crisp talk-rap vernacular.
Of working with Surya Sen, Barry says: “I’d been a fan of Surya for a while, his first mixtape is excellent. I knew I wanted to work with him, and it was one of those where we hit it off right away – just chatting about life, football, and random bits. Eventually we got round to the tune and spoke about The Neptunes as a big reference for blending dance and hip-hop energy, so we aimed in that direction. Then very quickly Surya had the perfect bars for the beat.”
Surya Sen added: ‘As soon as I heard the beat my head just started running through all the emotions we spoke about while we hung out earlier. The emotion of the instrumental made me want say all those things I wanted to my family, it didn’t take much time at all to write it and as soon as I played it to Barry Can’t Swim he instantly vibed so I knew we were on to a winner.”
