Barrie have shared their simple, gorgeous new song 'Geology' - tune in now.
The song seemingly owes a debt to the music podcast Song Exploder, and more specifically an episode centred on Best Coast songwriter Bethany Cosentino.
'Geology' has that unadorned indie pop feel, with its dappled colour palette sharply melodic in feel and execution.
Much like its Best Coast counterpart there's a devotion to 90s teen cinema, with 'Geology' nailing its own particular melodrama.
Barrie Lindsay commented: "I wrote this song in 2015, a few months after I bought my first guitar. I was listening to Best Coast on Song Exploder talking about 'Feeling Ok'. Bethany Cosentino said she was inspired by 90s movies soundtracks like Clueless, She’s All That, 10 Things I Hate About You. It blew my mind because I loved that music but didn’t realise you could take it seriously. That’s where 'Geology' came from."
Tune in now.
Barrie will release their new album 'Happy To Be Here' on May 3rd.
