Barack Obama Welcomes Jay Z Into The Songwriter’s Hall Of Fame

Barack Obama has helped welcome Jay Z into the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame with a video message.

Hove became the first hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Songwriter's Hall Of Fame yesterday (June 15th), prompting a number of tributes.

Jay Z himself opened his speech by passing his respects to the artists who inspire him – including his wife, Beyoncé.

The ceremony opened with a video message from Barack Obama, who told the rapper: "Nobody who met us when we were younger men would have expected us to be where we are today…"

The statesman closed by saying: "I’m proud to help present this award to a true American original."
