bar italia have signed to Matador Records.
The three-piece are the first British act to sign to the independent powerhouse since Savages, and the move follows a string of stellar shows. The band released an EP on Dean Blunt’s World Music label last year, and stormed through a packed out set at End Of The Road.
bar italia – Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton – inked a deal with the label, and then promptly shared remarkable new song ‘Nurse!’ – all wiry guitars, and hypnotic vocals, it puts us in mind of Life Without Buildings… which is no bad thing, to be honest.
A group who arrive fully-formed, theirs is a staunch originality, a denial of prevailing trends. ‘Nurse!’ is online now, and you can check ’em out at London’s ICA on May 25th as part of a short nationwide headline run.
