Bands Sign Anti-Nazi Letter

Protest At Recent Festival

Dirty Pretty Things, Reverend And The Makers’ Jon McClure, Late Of The Pier and Billy Bragg are just a few of the artists who have signed an open letter condemning the right-wing festival which caused havoc last weekend (September 20th).

The festival was organized under an assumed name, before it became clear that it was to commemorate deceased singer Ian Donaldson of Skrewdriver. A Somerset village was over-run by supporters of far right wing groups who brandished swastikas and other insignia.

The residents of Redhill complained to the police who were unable to do anything to help. In response to the show of force by right wing followers in the UK many acts have signed an open letter condemning such actions, and beliefs.

Skrewdriver were closely linked to the BNP and National Front organizations, and were pivotal in setting up the Blood And Honour organization which aims to promote Nazi beliefs through music.

This has prompted scores of musicians to sign the open letter condemning the group’s actions. In part, this letter reads:

“Rallies like the one that took place at the weekend stand for the ugly politics of racial violence and ultimately the politics of Hitler’s holocaust and a desire for an all-white Britain. Events like this have no place in Britain.”
