Bananagun will release new album ‘Why Is The Colour Of The Sky’ on November 8th.
The band’s exuberant debut LP blends psych-pop, tropicalia, and more, resulting in a potent summer-ready brew of sunshine guitar-rooted songwriting.
A mere four years on, the Melbourne act have completed a follow-up. Recorded at Button Pusher studio in Preston, Melbourne, Bananagun aim to channel mystical soundwaves, jazz-tinged grooves, and psychedelic reverberations.
The group say…
“It’s about the transient energy all around us and within us, exchanging between us, and the infinite possibilities depending on where you choose to place your energy. It’s like a force bigger than us that we can harness and transmute into cool things like a sculpture, a song, or even a roast dinner. It’s the ‘force’ Yoda talks about.”
New single ‘Free Energy’ has a jazz-like looseness to it – perhaps an echo of Melbourne’s internationally renowned free music scene.
In terms of lyricism, the uplifting song aims to capture the “attitude towards life and esoteric stuff, natural law, how energy transfers, sounds, chemistry between people” as the band’s Nick van Bakel puts it.
