Seoul-based collective Balming Tiger have shared a new EP ‘Greatest Hits’, their first project since the release of 2023 debut album, ‘January Never Dies’.
The EP features focus track ‘Big Butt’, the opening salvo on the meta-inspired ‘Greatest Hits’. The breakbeat-laced number is a love letter to the elusive crush, realised through the collective’s signature east-meets-west synthesis.
Intended as a compilation of singles rather than a holistic project, the Korean group’s synergy is on full, patchwork display in songs that coast between styles and eras. “We were going to release all five tracks from this EP in five separate singles,” Balming Tiger explain. “We then decided to put the five tracks together and make an EP with various moods. As we were originally going to release them all as singles, all five tracks are priorities, so we chose the title of the EP as ‘Greatest Hits'”.
Founded by bandleader San Yawn in 2018, Balming Tiger in its current guise consists of performers Omega Sapien, sogumm, bj wnjn, Chanhee Hong and Mudd the Student. On their debut full-length ‘January Never Dies’, the revolving collective took the listener on an epic celestial trip, mapping out each member’s essence in a wider, interlocking tapestry. You can read our interview with the collective here.
The visual for ‘Big Butt’ was masterminded by Balming Tiger member Jan’ Qui and pays homage to ’90s boy bands. Tune in below.
