Bad Sounds Channel Vibrant Pop Culture With ‘Beggin’

Part of their incoming EP...

Bad Sounds return with new single ‘Beggin’.

The Oxfordshire outfit – centred on the Merrett brothers, Ewan and Callum – caught attention with their excellent debut album, before working with Arlo Parks on her debut LP. Then they went independent, taking a break to find renewed focus.

Returning at the beginning of the year, the pair detailed plans for a quartet of EP releases. The final instalment – ‘Escaping From a Violent Time Vol. 4’ – is out at the beginning of 2024, a work of renewal for the duo.

“For me,” says Ewan, “it’s about coming through our nightmare scenario, getting dropped and running out of money – and getting away with it.”

New single ‘Beggin’ leads the way, with Bad Sounds dipping into vibrant pop culture. A fun, throwback single with some slick hooks and infectious melodies, it also contains a reference to an all-time driving classic.

Bad Sounds say: “Beggin’ is the sequel to ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’. Writing sequels to other people’s songs may be a legal grey area but it’s just sooooo much easier than coming up with original ideas of our own. The music video is a shameless attempt at getting an endorsement deal from Onitsuka Tiger. The shorts are short, and we do all our own stunts.”

Tune in now.
