Bad Sounds’ ‘More Than I Can Afford’ Is All-Too-Relatable

It's about the cost-of-living pinch...

Alt-pop duo Bad Sounds channel those cost-of-living vibes on new single ‘More Than I Can Afford’.

The ultra-creative duo have notched up a number of achievements, from Arlo Parks co-writes to their recent stellar EP ‘Escaping from a Violent Time, Vol.2’.

Closing 202 with their emphatic single ‘Nu Me Nu Yu’ back in October, Bad Sounds leap into 2023 with their best foot forward.

‘More Than I Can Afford’ is about the financial squeeze may of us are facing, a song about the know-how it requires simply to get by. Lyrically, it’s about hard knocks, and even harder budget choices – while still aiming to do your best.

Bad Sounds comment…

Being poor and living in an expensive city. Plus trying to eat healthy, not trash the environment, buy organic foods, and support local businesses. These are all things that we try really hard to do in our everyday lives, but it kind of feels unattainable to maintain the moral standards we set ourselves. So we end up feeling really guilty all the time for not being able to live up to that code of ethics every second of every day.

This problem has only really been compounded by the ever increasing financial divide in the UK. Hence “I bet a clean conscience costs more than I can afford”. You just end up doing your best and lying to yourself about your shortcomings.
