Pete Doherty unveiled a new look Babyshambles at a London show recently – causing some fans to walk out in protest.
Babyshambles have never had the most static of line ups. Formed as The Libertines were beginning to pull themselves apart, the band later solidified into one of Britain’s most popular guitar groups.
However the band have always matched their commercial success with reams of controversy. Organising a show in London’s Charlotte Street Blues bar on Tuesday (April 20th) Babyshambles introduced fans to new members.
Arriving at the venue to play a solo show, Pete Doherty instead introduced fans to a new look Babyshambles. Guitarist Mik Whitnall remained, however Adam Ficek and Drew McConnell were not present.
Causing confusion amongst the crowd, some fans immediately walked out of the show. The remaining fans began chanting the names of the missing band members, with Doherty carrying on.
There has been no official announcement on the future of Babyshambles, with the group set to release a new album later this year. However with Pete Doherty re-joining the Libertines and Adam Ficek embarking on a solo career it seems as though the band could be set to re-jig their line up.
Speaking to fans on Twitter, Adam Ficek appeared confused as to the ongoing situation. “Cheers for the support all, am as confused as all???” he wrote. “Was looking forward to gigs/newrecordz. Headache! Need to smell a rose.”
Babyshambles spent last year working on new material, and in recent interviews Pete Doherty had claimed that he was looking forward to releasing a new album with the current line up.
