Indie stars Babyshambles have confirmed plans to begin recording their third album in 2010.
Babyshambles began life as a vehicle for Pete Doherty while he was still in The Libertines. After that group’s ignoble collapse the band took on a life of their own, recording a scatty debut album.
With an ever revolving line up it was difficult for Babyshambles to settle into one mould. The introduction of guitarist Mik Whitnall helped push the band into a higher level, with second album ‘Shotter’s Nation’ bowling over fans and critics.
Since then the group have had a turbulent time, with singer Pete Doherty as always a target for tabloid coverage. Releasing his solo album earlier this year it seems that the singer wants to return to working within a group.
Now Babyshambles have confirmed plans to record their third album, with the band revealing in a new interview that they have written around eighteen songs for the sessions.
Speaking to the NME Pete Doherty claimed that the spark for sessions came from Mik Whitnall. “Mik spent a year on eBay buying shitloads of equipment,” he explained. “He’s written loads of amazing music which mostly just needs lyrics. So, one by one, they’re getting turned into songs.”
Amongst the titles named by Pete Doherty were: ‘Stone Me What A Life’, ‘Cuckoo 1440’, ‘352 Days’ and ‘Tinker’s Daughter’, ‘Fixing Up To Go’, ‘Bonjour Trieste’ and ‘After He’.
The latter song is apparently a bizarre ska meets Blur team up. “Musically it’s the perfect – I won’t say rip-off – but combination of classic ska and the riff from (The Smiths’ ‘This Charming Man’)” Doherty explained.
