Azealia Banks Begs To Be Dropped From Universal

"I would literally give anything to be on XL right now."

Ah, the tangled web of Azealia Banks.

The '212' singer long ago established herself as hot property, but in doing so gained a reputation as being too hot to handle.

Speaking to fans on Twitter last night (January 26th) the singer indulged in a little navel-gazing – which quickly turned into a blast at current label Universal.

"I REALLY should have signed with Sony" she wrote, before adding: "Can someone at Sony buy me off of Universal please?? i'm really in hell here."

Summarising her predicament, Azealia Banks said: "I'm tired of having to consult a group of old white guys about my black girl craft. they don't even know what they're listening for or to."

Her ideal solution? "I would literally give anything to be on XL right now."

All of which is rather contradictory. During an interview with Self-Titled Mag back in 2012 the rapper expanded on her relationship with XL: "It was almost the day I signed to XL that they started checking out," she said. "There were a good seven to eight months where I was just sending them texts and no-one would say anything or pick up the phone or respond to my emails. Nothing. And it started to ruin me."

"So I started harassing Richard. Like, 'Dude, I'm going to chop your neck off. Answer my emails!'"

Elsewhere in the same interview, Azealia Banks commented: "I was like, this is not what I worked so hard my entire life to do – to be rejected by some English guy in West Bumblefrickin' nowhere London, telling me I'm amateur or something like that… so I just said, 'Screw you!'"
