In classic The Chats fashion, these chaotic Aussie punks are getting absolutely fucked… according to the name of their upcoming August album, anyway. The eloquently named ‘GET FUCKED’ is set for release August 19th, and ‘6L GTR’ is the second single unleashed thus far.
‘6L GTR’ is a raucous, pummelling burst of pub-punk. The track wastes no time, immediately setting a whiplash-quick tempo and throwing you into the thick of The Chats’ world. Thrumming riffs and clashing drums charge the track onwards, making it impossible not to get sucked into the hectic rush of riffs and satirical lyrics.
The track takes a stab at macho men obsessed with flash cars – think of the kind of guy who would pat the hood of his ride fondly, lovingly, before an awe-struck proclamation of “listen to that baby purr!”. Speaking on the track, Eamon Sandwith explains the inspiration was a number plate he spotted saying ‘6L GTR’. “I don't even know if the car itself was actually a six-litre GTR or anything, to be honest… I don't even know what a car like that would look like! I can't drive!”
“That was the thing, we were just trying to get into this dude’s head. We were like, ‘When he’s fangin’ it in his car, what’s in his head? What does he do?’ It was a fun exercise.”
The track is the second taste of ‘GET FUCKED’ – previous single ‘Struck By Lightning’ will also feature. The track takes a less narrative-driven approach, yet employs that same rush of energy The Chats are known for. It looks like ‘GET FUCKED’ is going to be exactly what we’d want it to be – a total cry of unhinged mayhem. Perfect!
