At The Drive-In: No New Material

"...we're doing a couple of shows."

At The Drive-In have revealed that they are not planning to write or record any new material.

Exploding in a fireworks display of ego, pride and differing musical ideas, At The Drive-In left a stunning legacy. So when news broke that the seminal El Paso punks had decided to get back on the road, fans began dreaming of fresh material.

However it seems that a new album will not, now materialise. Chatting with Kerrang! magazine, guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez revealed that At The Drive-In have no intentions of writing new songs.

“Will there be a new album? No, no, no” he said. “At The Drive-In is more of a nostalgia thing – it’s songs we wrote when we were all in our 20s and we’re doing a couple of shows.”

Continuing, the guitarist said: “It’s an old T-shirt that doesn’t fit me any more, but when you put it on again, it feels nice. It’s as simple as that.”

Announced earlier this year, At The Drive-In’s decision to reform stunned fans. However for the band, the news was perhaps more of an inevitability with the guitarist revealing that all five members having “patched up their differences a while ago”.

“For the rest of the world, (the reformation) seemed to be out of nowhere, but we’ve been hanging out for the past four years. We patched up our differences a while ago.”

In a Tweet earlier this week, At The Drive-In seemed to allude to European shows. Shortly after this, the band confirmed plans to perform at this summer’s Benicassim.

Will they ever reach the UK? Wait and see…
