Astoria To Be Demolished

Historic Venue To Go

Historic music venue London Astoria was today (October 17th) purchased compulsorily by the government, marking the final step before its demolition.

The venue was opened as a cinema in 1927, and is one of around a dozen building in the area that has marked for demolition in order to clear the way for a new train station.

The Astoria is one of the London music scene’s most established venues. Arctic Monkeys sold out the venue whilst still unsigned, while it was also the scene of Manic Street Preachers last gig with Richey Edwards.

The demolition is part of a scheme to create an innovative, and time saving, rail route through London. Former London mayor Ken Livingstone promised another venue to be built in its place, but as yet there have been no further announcements.

There has been no final date set for the demolition of the London Astoria.
