British house pioneer Ashley Beedle needs help to fund urgent medical care.
The producer is one of the truly pivotal names in the evolution of British house music, from his work with X-Press 2 through to his substantial solo catalogue, and beyond. Name-checked by Daft Punk in their seminal ‘Teachers’, his work helped define new pathways for UK club culture.
As long-time fans might know, Ashley Beedle has had a lot to deal with of late. Diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer four years ago, he suffered a brain bleed and seizure due to the rupture of a brain mass late last year.
In February 2024, during a 16 hour operation to remove the mass, he suffered a major stroke – this has caused the loss of movement in the leg and arm on Ashley’s right-hand side, in addition to depriving him of his power of speech.
Recovering in Kings College’s Critical Care unit, specialist help means that his voice is slowly returning, but Ashley Beedle still requires a great deal of expert care.
Having used all their savings to get to this stage, Ashley’s family are now facing mounting medical bills, and the prospect of lifelong care – the diagnosis is that Ashley’s mobility won’t return to his right side and he will be confined to a wheelchair.
A GoFundMe crowdfunding venture has been set up, with the aim of raising £50,000 for Ashley Beedle’s permanent care – get involved HERE and help out a true pioneer.
