Arts Council England have confirmed plans for a £160 million emergency response to the coronavirus shutdown.
The spread of COVID-19 has prompted the closure of all bars, venues, clubs, museums, and galleries across the UK, leaving countless people with an uncertain future.
In an attempt to offer some kind of support, Arts Council England have set up a rescue fund for those effected.
£160 million has been made available, aiming to help cultural organisations, freelancers, and artists through these difficult times.
The fund is split into three: £20 million will be given to practitioners, £90 million will be given to the 828 organisations in the "national portfolio", and £50 million awarded to those outside of that portfolio.
In a statement, ACE chair Sir Nicholas Serota said:
“None of us can hope to weather this storm alone, but by working together in partnership, I believe we can emerge the stronger, with ideas shared, new ways of working, and new relationships forged at the local, national and even international level.”
