Rumours are mounting that The Stone Roses have begun work on their third album.
In a way, we shouldn’t be surprised. When The Stone Roses signalled their reformation last year, the band told a packed press conference that they intended to record new material.
“We’ll just keep writing and if it’s our standard, we’ll go” said Ian Brown. “We’re not here to destroy anything, you know; it’s as precious to us as what it is to someone who has followed us for years. I’ve heard a few people saying, ‘You shouldn’t do it, you’re going to destroy the legacy’, but that’s not our intention”.
Now The Sun have gone one step further. The tabloid have reported that work has already begun on a proposed third album, with ‘a source’ leaking information out of the recording studio.
“John (Squire) and Ian (Brown) have been sending each other ideas for over a year now. During rehearsals they have tried some new songs and really felt that the old magic was still there with the songwriting. They have decided they will give it another spin with new music next year.”
The report also states that The Stone Roses are plotting another surprise show, this time in London. Designed to tie in with the Olympic games, speculation holds that the band will team up with Adidas for the show.
We’ll see how that pans out…
