Well, the long wait is over – Sheffield giants Arctic Monkeys have released their new single ‘Crying Lightning’.
Arctic Monkeys last released an album in 2007 with their Mercury nominated set ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’. Led by Alex Turner, the singer took time off to launch his new project Last Shadow Puppets.
Recalling grandiose pop by the likes of Scott Walker, the band’s sweeping, melancholic drama has ebbed into new material by Arctic Monkeys. Recorded with Josh Homme in his California studio, the band’s new album is said to have a rock edge.
Titled ‘Humbug’ the new record is set to be released later this year. Fans in Australia and New Zealand have already had a taster of the group’s new material, while ClashMusic was recently played Arctic Monkeys’ latest album.

As a taster from the new album, Arctic Monkeys are set to release ‘Crying Lightning’ as a new single. In order to beat piracy the band premiered the song at midnight last night (July 7th) on the Zane Lowe show – then immediately released ‘Crying Lightning’ as a single.
Speaking to the host about the new single Alex Turner said “this was deemed the best signifier of the record. It was a favourite during recording.”
Turner continued: “We’ve enjoyed making it (‘Humbug’) more than the other two put together. It does really feel like we’re getting somewhere.”
Arctic Monkeys are set to release their new single ‘Crying Lightning’ on August 17th. Listen to the song below…
