American indie rock outfit Archers Of Loaf have laid out plans for new album ‘Reason In Decline’.
The new release represents the cult group’s first new album in 24 years, a fresh addition to their peerless catalogue. An endlessly inventive, deeply influential project, Archers Of Loaf have played a handful of re-union shows in the past decade, but it seems this time it’s sticking.
Out on October 21st, it taps into the spirit of those early recordings, while affording the North Carolina group space to experiment. Guitarist Eric Bachmann comments: “What I really think about going back to the Archers and doing a new record is that the three other members of this band are awesome. It’s not about responding to the past or whatever our bullshit legacy is. I just wanted to work with these guys because I knew the chemistry we had and that we still have. I knew that was rare.”
The album is led by tense new cut ‘In The Surface Noise’, and the grinding intensity removes any doubt that this will simply be a re-tread of former glories – startling, forward-facing music, it blends the personal with the political. Bachmann once more: “we didn’t intend for this song to be political and it was written through a personal lens but as sometimes happens the lyrics (‘what’s more for them ain’t less for you’) ended up being more universal.”
Tune in now.
