Arcade Fire Auction DVDs

Canadian group get generous

Canadian orchestral rockers Arcade Fire are set to donate profits from the sales of auctioned DVDs and silk-screened posters to charity.

Arcade Fire are simply one of the most important groups of the post-Millennial period. The band emerged from Canada at a time when the country was better known for producing musical acts such as Celine Dion.

Now, however, the Canadian music scene is one of the most healthy on the planet. Of course, Arcade Fire can’t take full credit for that but if the cap fits, they’d be wearing it. The group last released an album with 2007’s ‘Neon Bible’ and since then have concentrated on touring.

The band recently released a tour DVD titled ‘Miroir Noir’ and are set to sell off 250 signed copies of the film, alongside hand-made silk-screened posters signed by the artist. All proceeds from the sales of the DVD/poster packages will go to Partners In Health, which delivers high-quality health care to the poor.

Recently the band were embroiled in a row with another celebrated North American act. Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne erupted in an interview when discussing Arcade Fire, labelling his former tour partners “pricks”.

The Canadian group responded with typical grace, while Coyne recently apologised for his outburst.

ClashMusic won’t be hearing any criticism of Arcade Fire on our patch – we recently voted their album ‘Funeral’ at the top of our Essential 50!

Fans tired of listening to the same songs on repeat can rejoice at the news that Arcade Fire have begun work on the eagerly anticipated new album. The group went on a year long hiatus, but have apparently begun writing new material.

The group are also set to contribute to the soundtrack of the forthcoming Spike Jonze movie ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. Arcade Fire will contribute a version of their song ‘Wake Up’ for the film, joining a cast that includes Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O.
