Ah April Fool’s Day – an annual festival of office pranksters, phoning each other up and pretending to be the taxman.
This year saw work at Clash towers crippled by an amusing jape involving a ‘music lawyer’ but once the mirth had been subdued it was back to the chain gang. It seems we weren’t the only ones indulging in some chuckles this year with Bjork, Coldplay and more playing tricks on their fans.
In a posting on her website Bjork told fans that she will be replacing legendary vocalist Robert Plant in Led Zeppelin. According to the statement the rock gods’ world tour was “in turmoil after original singer Robert Plant decided to concentrate on live work with Allison Krauss” so she kindly decided to step in.
What a show that would be!
Elsewhere in the world of music japery, Coldplay told fans they were due to record in zero gravity conditions – perhaps in order to remove yet more weight from their music. In a posting on their website the group told fans they will be heading into space with producer Brian Eno – who once actually soundtracked a NASA documentary.
“Later this year, the band will board a modified Boeing 727 aircraft, which can provide zero gravity for periods of 20-25 seconds at a time. Wearing self-designed outfits based on early Russian cosmonaut suits, they will be joined by producer/collaborator Brian Eno, who will use custom-made ‘heavy’ microphones to record the sessions on a 1969 analogue cassette player.”
“We’ve been searching for the right environment to record the perfect snare drum sound for many years now, and I’ve just got a gut feeling that zero gravity is the place to do that, y’know?” Chris Martin said in the statement.
Laugh? We thought we’d never stop!
