Ethereal voiced New Yorkers Antony And The Johnsons are set to release their new album ‘Swanlights’ later this year.
Led by Antony Hegarty, New York group Antony And The Johnsons make utterly unique music. Capable of saying all they need to in just a 60 second melody, the band have equally been known to compose ten minute epics.
Perhaps best known for scooping the Mercury Music with their album ‘I Am A Bird Now’ the group ended a four year silence with last year’s acclaimed selection ‘The Crying Light’.
Resisting the temptation to break off into solo projects, Antony And The Johnsons have immediately reconvened for a new album. ‘Swanlights’ was recorded last year, and is set to be released later this summer.
Available via Rough Trade here in the UK (Secretly Canadian for our Stateside friends), details of the new album remain thin on the ground. A European release date of October 5th has been announced, with a special edition of the album mooted.
At publishers Abrams are planning to release a deluxe edition of ‘Swanlights’ accompanied by a 144 page book. The new publication will include paintings, collages, photography, and writing by Antony Hegarty himself.
A no doubt fascinating insight into the reclusive singer’s life and career, the book will be available at the same time as the album.
Meanwhile, Antony And The Johnsons have released the artwork to ‘Swanlights’. An eye catching painting, it seems to feature an injured polar bear with its white fur covered in pools of blood.
