Anna Vincent will release new album 'Under The Glass' on October 29th.
The songwriter found her work had reached a natural point of evolution last year, when the lockdown halted her touring activities.
Delving inwards, Anna Vincent was drawn towards folk-indebted songwriting from the late 60s and early 70s, re-casting the Laurel Canyon school in her own gaze.
'Under The Glass' was constructed last year, and it's a reflective offering. She explains: “There’s something about growing up and getting older. You start to become aware of time, and of who you truly are, and how that’s not going to change. Now it’s all about embracing who I am, with all the limitations that that entails.”
New song 'Naxos' is online now, and recalls a romantic trip to the Greek Islands – her partner is Max Bloom, and 'Under The Glass' will be released on his label.
She says: "‘Naxos’ was the first song I wrote for this album, and it’s about when Max and I went to Greece just a few months into our relationship. It was our first holiday, so on one level the song is about that, just being on an adventure and in love. But it was also impossible to ignore the mythology of the island, and at points it felt like we’d stepped back in time."
"There was also something dreamlike and magical about travelling to the island by boat and being marooned there, but happily so. I had this feeling of being home, even though it was the first time I’d been there, and I realised it was the feeling you get being with someone you love: anywhere could be home if we were together."
Tune in now.
