Anna Calvi is set to release her new single ‘Desire’ on June 20th, ahead of a new British tour.
With her striking voice and liquid guitar playing, Anna Calvi caught attention last year with a series of dramatic live shows. Somewhere between Patti Smith and the theatrics of Kate Bush, her material seemed to hint at vast future glory.
Disappearing into the recording studio, Anna Calvi’s debut album was released earlier this year. A striking mixture of potential and delivery, the record introduced fans to a brave new talent.
Heading out on a nationwide tour, live shows have demonstrated the sheer verve and confidence with which Anna Calvi tackles her material. With fans growing, the singer has decided to drop a new single from her debut album.
Part of her debut collection, ‘Desire’ stood out on the first listen. Opening with some Celtic chords on the harmonium, the pounding drums and soaring vocals are reminiscent of a feminine Bruce Springsteen.
Live, the track really comes into its own with Anna Calvi’s persona seeming to dominate the stage. Due for release on June 20th, the single will be available on seven inch and as a digital download.
As a special incentive for fans, the singer has recorded a rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic ‘Joan Of Arc’.
Set to drop on June 20th, the single will be accompanied by a flurry of live dates. Currently on tour across the country, Anna Calvi has added a number of shows including a joint headline date in the Royal Festival Hall as part of this year’s Meltdown.
