Animal Collective's Avey Tare has revealed that he is starting a new group, featuring former members of Dirty Projectors and Ponytail.
Animal Collective are a curious beast. Far from a band in the strictest guitar-bass-drums sense of the word, the Baltimore outfit are nonetheless defiantly collective in the way they approach things.
Last year's album 'Centipede Hz' saw the group re-assert their uniform tendencies, resulting in some fiery live shows. Now, though, Avey Tare feels that the time is right to embark on another side project.
Forming a new group, the musician will be joined by x-Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian and ex-Ponytail drummer Jeremy Hyman. Together, the trio will be known as Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks, with a statement describing the group thus:
"A group of three hippies on a road trip through the backwaters of 2013s rural music scene fall prey to a murderous cannibalistic band making, including a leather-masked, guitar-wielding Avey Tare, his knife-wielding keyboard player Angel Deradoorian, and their cannibal chief drummer and decaying grandfather Jeremy Hyman."
Curious. Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks have confirmed the following UK shows:
June
21 London The Lexington
22 Camber Sands ATP
