Animal Collective Not Splitting

But they are "lying low"

Baltimore indie rock mavericks Animal Collective have confirmed that they are taking a short break.

At first just an above average wyrd folk group, Animal Collective’s evolution into a hugely ambitious sampler guzzling psych-rock combo has resulted in critical acclaim and two nominations at the BRIT awards.

Their recent album ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’ has been lauded as a benchmark for rock music, twisting the form into new and exciting shapes. With fans desperate to hear where the band are going next, Animal Collective have been strangely silent.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, Animal Collective singer Panda Bear revealed that the band are to take a short break in order to avoid exhaustion.

“We were really happy with the record, so we wanted to put in a little extra this time” he explained. “But it took its toll in terms of us just being exhausted. So I think all of us are trying to lay low just for a second.”

However Panda Bear did become quite cryptic when referring to Animal Collective’s future. “There have been times in the past when I’ve thought we were done. So I don’t know, this could be it. I don’t expect it to be, I should say, but you never know” he added.

Animal Collective are, however, looking forward to working on new material together. “We’ve already talked about it in very loose, vague terms” he claimed. “But no dates have been set in terms of us getting together to work on stuff.”

“One thing I think all of us are interested in is trying to write music in the same location because it’s been a while since we’ve done that. So hopefully that comes to pass.”
