Angus1 Explores The Liminal Zone On ‘Run’

A re-introduction...

Sydney artist and producer Angus1 returns today with pacesetting new single ‘Run’, continuing a recent tradition of emerging Australian electronic artists (1tbsp, Mall Grab) breaking through.

Having previously released under labels Future Classic and Kitsuné, Angus1 is no stranger to cross-cultural fusions; he intermixed obscure samples with modern-day malaise on pandemic-era cut ‘Champagne’. Similarly, ‘Run’, is built around a distorted Desi-inspired vocal loop but operates on a different frequency – equal parts dancefloor delirium and brooding communiqué. The single, mixed by Jack Prest (Sampa the Great, GODTET, Golden Vessel) and mastered by Matt Colton (Flume, Arctic Monkeys, Little Simz, James Blake), is the first taste of a debut body of work arriving in April.

Reflecting on the release, Angus1 shares that ‘Run’ serves as a letter of encouragement to his artist friend Liz, known as Elizabeth M. Drummond, who he collaborated with on 2020 reverie ‘Bound’. Angus 1 shares: “The song embodies her journey as a woman in music, urging her to trust her instincts and break free from those who have sought to stifle her creative expression. It’s a testament to letting go of past triumphs and setbacks, recognizing and believing in one’s abilities, taking back control, and forging ahead.”

He continues: “There’s enormous pressure for everyone in music, but particularly women, to inhabit this space of perpetual youth. ‘Run’ is a reminder to both Liz and myself that sometimes you need to slow things down in order to speed things up… if you take your time, back yourself, and connect with who you really are, things will fall into place.

Tune in now.
