Angela Muñoz has made her debut on Stones Throw with new EP ‘Descanso’.
The songwriter has made a deep impression in a short time – her teens saw a collaboration with Adrian Younge, before joining his group The Midnight Hour.
Latterly focussing on her solo work, Angela Muñoz was drawn into the orbit of Stones Throw, the legendary stable behind releases from J Dilla, NxWorries, and many, many more.
New EP ‘Descanso’ is her first for the imprint, and it’s a work of musical autobiography – re-affirming her core values, it moves from soulful expression to jazz-like dexterity while also retaining the lingering energies of the club space.
The title means “to rest” in Spanish, with the EP serving as a moment to take stock, before moving forwards. She comments…
“Rest is necessary for growth, it allows time to digest experiences and feelings, and helps me better understand them.”
A beautiful document, ‘Descanso’ finds Angela Muñoz‘ finessing her solo voice – and there’s also a short film to go along with the EP.
