Legendary crooner Andy Williams has passed away after a year long battle with bladder cancer.
To many, Andy Williams represented a form of entertainment which has almost completely passed into memory. Born in Iowa, the singer began performing at an early age as part of family group The Williams Brothers before begin swept into Hollywood.
Beginning his solo career in 1953, Williams earned a reputation for a smooth style which marked him out as one of the most successful artists from the easy listening era. Later becoming a Las Vegas legend, Andy Williams would find his place in popular culture via The Andy Williams Show – a hugely popular variety show which dominated American television between 1962 and 1971.
Continuing to perform almost to the end, the singer was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year. Sadly, publicist Paul Shefrin has confirmed that Andy Williams died at his home in Branson, Mo., on Tuesday (September 25th).
