Hercules & Love Affair producer Andy Butler is set to launch his new label Mr. Intl. with a solo project.
Andy Butler is a well known figure on the New York club scene. A top DJ for over a decade, the producer decided to release his tracks after being cajoled into forming a band by those at DFA Records.
Taking inspiration from disco and classic house, Hercules & Love Affair released their acclaimed debut album in 2008. Currently preparing a second helping, Andy Butler has now decided to launch his own label.
Mr. Intl. will commence with a new offering from Andy Butler, which goes closer than ever to defining his unique view on electronic music: “I don’t want anything that sounds pre ’85 or post ’94”.
Extremely limited, this view is obvious in Andy Butler’s DJ sets which thrive on the iconic era of New York house. Mr. Intl. is set to commence with a new release from Andrew Butler and Jason Kendig on August 30th.
The pair have collaborated on a track which could have come from the early 90s era of Acid. ‘And I’m (So In Love With You)’ has the bouncy spring of house but with a four on the floor feel which could only come from techno.
Jason Kendig needs no introduction, having been a resident at the legendary Detroit party Family. Shifting to San Francisco, the DJ is now a resident at the Honey Sound System night, spinning classic house alongside the latest productions.
‘And I’m (So In Love With You)’ is set to be released through Beatport, with a vinyl issue to follow. Remixes are set to be completed from Bulgarian producer Kink and Swiss engineer Deetron.
Produced on analog technology, Andy Butler said: “I want to evoke strictly that sound on this label, so I’ve been pretty hard ass with people in terms of what the output is”.
Alongside the new release, Mt. Intl. is preparing to launch a new tour featuring the current incarnation of Hercules & Love Affair.
