Ride guitarist Andy Bell has shared a neat cover of Pentangle’s Light Flight’.
The musician is on something of a creative roll right now, set to join Ride for a nationwide celebration of their 1990 debut album ‘Nowhere’ later this summer. On a solo front, his electronic dalliances as GLOK are augmented by his more guitar-led work, culminating in recent double album ‘Flicker’.
Out now, sessions for the record were fruitful enough to encompass a new single, with ‘Lifeline’ becoming an acoustic hymnal. The gentle yet complex picking pattern underpins a soothing vocal, one draped in effects more familiar to his shoegaze work.
It’s an intriguing return, and in true 45RPM spirit the flip is also worth checking out. A neat, faithful take on Pentangle’s ‘Light Flight’ it’s a nod to his acoustic heroes, with Andy Bell replicating the work of Bert Jansch and John Renbourne.
