Grammy award winning singer Amy Winehouse has reportedly filed an application to stay on St Lucia permanently.
Amy Winehouse seems to love the peace and tranquility of the Caribbean. After a year spent dodging the British press and watching her marriage unravel, the singer moved to St Lucia on holiday in order to escape her stressful London life.
Soaking up the sun, Amy Winehouse seemed to recover much of her vitality. Rumours extending from the island included claims of new material, and even a book of poetry with Winehouse said to have recovered her creative passions.
Yet the singer’s old traits remain. Amy Winehouse was recently rushed to hospital on the island, while a comeback show organised for St Lucia’s renowned jazz festival ended in chaos with the performer walking offstage.
According to British tabloid the News Of The World the ‘Rehab’ singer is now aiming to stay on St Lucia permanently. “We are aware of Amy wanting to live here on a permanent basis,” they are quoted as saying. “We have received an application and are looking into it.”
In addition to the wonderful weather, the singer would also stand to make large tax savings on the Caribbean island.
However not everyone would welcome Amy Winehouse to the Caribbean. The singer’s presence has brought with it a veritable army of media types, with a posse of paparazzi following her every move.
In a stinging attack on the singer former government official Jeff Feddee claimed:
“I had dutifully trekked to Pigeon Point during the Jazz Festival to see how our tax dollars were being wasted, because evidently to our Tourism officials a notorious reputation for obnoxious behaviour and not necessarily musical ability was the main criteria for including Amy Winehouse in the Jazz line-up.”
“For me it was a stomach churning experience to witness a reptilian looking character with a skeleton frame, staggering onto the stage, barely fitting into what appeared to be a size zero dress, cut just above an unsightly crotch. I thought Amy Winehouse should be locked up, be put in compulsory rehab and force fed to put some flesh on her insect frame.”
Amy Winehouse has yet to confirm news of her residency plans.
