Amy Winehouse Launches Label

Lioness Records first release confirmed

Record breaking Grammy winner Amy Winehouse has officially launched her own record company, Lioness Records.

Amy Winehouse has a close relationship to her label Island. The imprint discovered her as a shy jazz influenced singer, and stuck by the performer when her debut album ‘Frank’ sold only modestly.

The relationship was rewarded by the enormous global success of ‘Back To Black’. Showered in awards the record sold by the bucketload, topping charts across the world. Now it seems as though Amy Winehouse has been inspired to launch her own label.

Lioness Records has apparently been inspired by Motown and 2-Tone according to a statement on the star’s website. The first release on the label is set to be ‘Introducing Dione Bromfield’ – an album by the singer’s 13 year old cousin.

In a statement Amy Winehouse said: “The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing… such an amazing voice from such a young girl. I’m just so proud of her. I’m very lucky to have a record label. I’ve got all these people that I love, that are really talented – and Dionne is my number one”.

Continuing, the singer claimed that the name Lioness Records was inspired by a necklace given to her by grandmother Cynthia.

“My nan was like my best friend. She was the sweetest, strongest, most amazing person I’ve ever met and when I was thinking of what to call the label I picked up the necklace and knew straight away that I’d call it Lioness, in honour of Cynthia.”

The statement finished by affirming that Lioness Records will “be able to call on the creative support of her Island Records family”.

Amy Winehouse is currently working on her third album.
