Amy Winehouse has returned to the charts at number one with the release of ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’.
The enormous global appeal of Amy Winehouse belied her slim back catalogue. An instantly recognisable performer, the singer tragically died this summer after completing just two full studio albums.
Since then, record label Island have spoken about bringing together some of the more extraneous elements of her studio career.
Producer Salaam Remi was tasked with bringing the project together, sifting through hours of studio reels, home demos and off cuts. Released last week, ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ is a personal collection which seems to have struck a chord with fans.
Lead track ‘Our Day Will Come’ waltzed into the charts, with ‘Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ following suit.
Entering the charts at number one, the album took just one week to reach the top spot. Displacing Michael Buble’s festive collection, Amy Winehouse is on course to fulfilling bookies predictions that she will claim the Christmas number one on the album chart.
Elsewhere, Adele’s ’21’ remains at number six having never once dropped out of the Top Ten in the 46 weeks since its release.
Further down the charts, Coldplay linger at number eight with their album ‘Mylo Xyloto’ while Noel Gallagher remains at number fourteen.
Black Keys returned with their new album ‘El Camino’ last week. The Akron blues duo poked their way into the Top 30, reaching number 29 in its first week of release.
