The father of Amy Winehouse has claimed that the singer died after suffering a seizure during detox.
The death of Amy Winehouse has been one of the year’s most covered news events. Tragically passing away at the age of just 27, the cause of death was immediately debated in the press.
Speculation linked the singer’s death with her much reported drug and alcohol addictions. However a recent toxicology found that Amy Winehouse was free of illegal drugs at the time of her death.
Medical investigations are ongoing, although the father of Amy Winehouse has his own beliefs. Invited to appear on Anderson Cooper’s new Stateside chat show ‘Anderson’ Mitch Winehouse stated his belief that a sudden detox triggered a seizure which led to the singer’s death.
Speaking to the host, Mitch Winehouse said: “Everything Amy did, she did to excess. She drank to excess and did detox to excess.” (via Associated Press)
Mitch Winehouse appeared on the show alongside his wife Janis, and the singer’s boyfriend Reg Traviss. Continuing, Mitch Winehouse explained that his daughter was “heading in the right direction” before her death.
“The periods of abstinence were becoming longer, and the periods of drinking were becoming shorter,” he said.
In the same interview, Reg Traviss revealed that he attempted to convince Amy Winehouse to curb her drinking without sounding as if he was nagging. “She was a really clever girl” he explained.
“She knew what she was doing. I would sometimes choose my moments when there was something that was needed to be said.”
‘Anderson’ is set to be shown in the United States tonight (September 12th).
