Superstar retro-soul diva Amy Winehouse smoked crack during her gigs, ex-husband Blake Fielder Civil has claimed.
Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil’s marriage was one of the most traumatic relationships in pop. Winehouse was rapidly emerging as a star in her own right, while Fielder-Civil seemed to attract trouble wherever he went.
As the singer’s album ‘Back To Black’ became ever more successful, their relationship seemed to plumb ever lower depths. Blake Fielder-Civil was jailed in 2008 for assaulting a pub owner, sending his wife into despair.
It is thought that her husband’s imprisonment triggered a massive upsurge in Amy Winehouse’s drug intake. Frequently appearing dishevelled onstage, the singer would often dedicate a song to her husband.
However the pair divorced earlier this year after newspaper reports showed Winehouse cavorting with a young man in the Caribbean. Now free from prison, Blake Fielder-Civil has given a number of revealing interviews to British tabloids concerning his ex-wife’s drug habits.
In a new interview Fielder-Civil claims that Amy Winehouse would carry drug paraphernalia wherever she went – including gigs.
“Amy would stumble off (stage), with her hands out waiting for the crack pipe. She smoked after every song and without her next hit, she wouldn’t go on. It’s no wonder she couldn’t sing properly,” he told The Sun.
Continuing, Blake Fielder-Civil claimed that “the only thing she cared about was her crack pipe. We carried a crack pipe with us all the time. If we went out to dinner, Amy would get it out and hide under the table so she could have a quick hit. She was quite blatant about it, and no one ever questioned her.”
Fielder-Civil also ominously claimed that the singer had moved onto heroin by late 2006. “Amy took to heroin like a duck to water, same as me”.
